The Annual Exhibition is a showcase of Thompson's Gallery Aldeburgh's finest artists. An event in the calendar to look forward to, for us and hopefully for all those visiting.
After 35 years, it's a testament to the popularity of this exhibition that we are able to include the very best work from our stable of contemporary and Modern British painters and sculptors in one diverse and exciting show. Curating an exhibition of this scale is ambitious and always a challenge, but one which we love.
Thompson's Gallery was established in 1982, expanding with additional galleries in the Cotswolds, the City of London, and the West End over the years, but Aldeburgh has always remained home.
Suffolk itself has been home to, and the inspiration, for many artists. With this in mind, amongst the fantastic breadth of subjects, our 35th Annual Exhibition features paintings of Aldeburgh from current artists including Robert Kelsey's vibrant beach scenes, Charles Rowbotham's delicate watercolours and Terence Clarke's colourful landscapes, and works from the past such as Marcus Ford's elegant depiction of Slaughden Quay, in a celebration of one of the country's most well-loved coastal towns.
From typically iconic paintings by one of the finest British impressionist painters of the 20th century, Edward Seago RWS RBA, to contemporary figurative studies by Valeriy Gridnev PS RP ROI, and the tactile, playful figures of sculptor Vanessa Pooley FRBS, the 35th instalment of this exhibition highlights the diversity of our artists, always with an emphasis on quality.
This Annual Exhibition features over 70 artists, a figure that continues to grow each year. We welcome you to view this milestone exhibition which, in a meeting of tradition and modernity, personifies Thompson's Galleries.
